Pollution causes global warming, and in an effort to promote community awareness, Yuba College held an Informative Fair on Friday, October 3, hoping to educate students about things they can do to help.

"Going green" is about reducing the pollution that humans cause by driving cars or burning off chemicals that are released into the air, the main causes of global warming.

It involves larger changes in society, such as when scientists develop alternatives to gasoline, and more personal changes - things that each of us can to reduce our negative impact on the environment.

The Fair consisted of booths that presented ways to decrease our carbon footprint by not using hazardous electrical appliances, such as a stove, and how to use solar power as an oven. One booth demonstrated how to cook Pineapple Cake in one of their solar ovens - though it did not work because it was a cloudy day.

Other booths explained which cars are eco-friendly and which are harmful to the environment. The Hybrid is becoming the most fuel efficient, eco-friendly car on the market. Ford had a booth with catalogs on their eco-friendly models, showing their carbon footprint ratings.

The Feather River Air Quality Management District had a booth filled with information about "101 Things You Can Do About Global Warming," an educational activity book that shows step by step how to reduce our carbon footprint.

They also gave away trees in tiny boxes, which included the seeds, a magic pellet, and a peat pot, as well as a 32-page book explaining how to grow a Dawn Redwood tree and offering interesting facts about it.

"Going green" is definitely in. Students are often seen wearing recycled clothing with "green" logos and eating food that is not enhanced but all natural, as well as driving around in eco-friendly cars. Fight Global Warming by doing your part today!
