The United Nations declared September 23 an International Day of Peace. Our own Yuba College tried to organize a day to celebrate the day of peace and wrote a letter for all of the Peace Day participants to sign stating "...the Associated Students of Yuba College held festivities on our campus in honor of the International Day of Peace. I am very thankful that the United Nation has created an International Day of Peace because it allows us to forget all the conflict within our world and focus on what really matters - peace."

Way to lie to UN, guys.

How did listening to the speech team recite quotes about peace from a piece of paper make me forget about the conflict in the world?

The letter also boasts that "an array of peace bells decorated our campus allowing us to ring a bell in reverence of peace." Yes, a row of bells on a table and a couple of bells in a tree manned by a guy dancing to Rihanna's "Disturbia" really gave me a chance to relfect in reverence and "consider the need for more harmony in our world."

Oh, and please stop blaming the poor attendance of functions on the students. If the events were worth coming to, people would show up.

But hey, there's always next year, right?
